A gift from Mother Nature herself, pearls are formed when a substance, such as a grain of sand, gets lodged in the oyster. The substance gets covered with layer upon layer of a hard, smooth substance called "nacre," which gives the pearl its distinctive luster.
Pearls are evaluated according to their size, shape, surface texture, colour, and luster - which gives pearls their luminous beauty. Classic white cultured pearls may have varying shades of grey, brown, or silver. Pearls are also available in other colours such as black, purple, pink, blue, and gold. They also come in a variety of shapes and sizes.
